Town and state you grew up in: My family left San Francisco when I was two weeks old. We traveled around the United States with several big bands. We settled in Mesquite, TX for five years until my Dad joined Harry James and brought us to Las Vegas, NV

Town and state you live in now: Las Vegas & Nashville.

First instrument: Soprano sax in grade school.

Instruments you currently play: Piano (enough to write songs) and guitar (simple chords).

First performance: Four years old for house guests. I sand Frank Sinatra’s “You Make Me feel So Young.”

Last book you read: Nora Roberts’ “Birthright”

Favorite movie: The Way We Were

Song you wish you had written: “People”

Favorite song: “Don’t Rain On My Parade”

Las Vegas’s own Silk & Satin recording artist Sandy Kastel had the honor of being asked to be a presenter at the 2007 CAMIE Awards (www.camieawards.org), which was held Saturday, May 12th at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre located in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Plaza in North Hollywood. The emcees for the event were Leanza Cornett, Mark Steines and John Schneider. The CAMIE Award is presented to entertaining and uplifting theatrical motion pictures and made-for-TV films that provide positive role models for building character, overcoming adversity and strengthening families, Kastel was paired with John Schneider (Smallville, Touched By An Angel) to present a CAMIE for "The Christmas Card," a Hallmark channel film starring John Newton, Alice Evans and Ed Asner.

Sandy KastelLas Vegas’s own Sandy Kastel is making waves across the country and cyberspace with her smoky rendition of “Beyond The Sea” which lit up the Top 40 Adult Contemporary Chart this week. Jumping to #31, “Beyond The Sea” is the first single from Sandy’s debut album This Time Around set to be released nationwide in May. Sandy is surrounded on the ACQB Chart by superstars such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, The Fray and John Mayer.
 
Kastel has been promoting her upcoming album This Time Around at major race tracks around the country, through her sponsorship of 3 time NHRA champion race car driver David Rampy. Look for Sandy’s picture and logo on Rampy’s trailer, car, and uniform, as he competes on the National Drag Race Circuit. Kastel along with David Rampy and his top-performing cars will also visit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in select cities along the NHRA route.
