Egyptologists and curators from galleries were struck by the symbology reflected in the sculpture especially since Sandy has never been to Egypt. The Egyptian Princess, also known as High Priestess, is a totally original creation.
The symbols in the sculpture are indicative of an earlier Pre-Dynastic times when the High Priestesses wore the sign of the cobra on their headdress and the five points on the necklace are also symbolic
“Time flies by when I am in my studio working on a sculpture,” says the sculptor. “I get lost in the process,” she continues. “It’s as if the sculpture is creating itself. I am merely the messenger and my hands are the tools.”
The Egyptian Princess Series is a Limited Edition and only one of a series of works in progress in Sandy Kastel’s Studio.
